Goth, Bellydance, and a Morbid Outlook - THE FRONT PAGE ONLINE
Posted by Frederik Sisa at 9.5.12Laura McCutchan is one multi-talented lady; dancer, club promoter, DJ, and, of course, editor of the best Goth magazine out there, Morbid Outlook. As she works towards relaunching the 'zine's website in honour of its twentieth anniversary, I interviewed her via eMail. Read all about Morbid Outlook, Goth culture, and bellydancing at The Front Page Online:

updates: TFPO, Morbid Outlook, the ladder
Posted by Frederik Sisa at 16.12.09Apologies for the lack of timely updates. Here's a quick rundown of what's going on:
My second of an anticipated three columns on climate change posted at TFPO on Monday. I diverged slightly from my intended topic to answer editor Ari Noonan's editorial - Why Won’t the Global Warmies Engage in a Manly Debate? - with a question of my own Why Won’t Climate Change Deniers Accept the Science?
A new edition of In Rotation at Morbid Outlook with reviews of The Genitorturers, Ascension of the Watchers, Echo & the Bunnymen, Synthetic Dream Foundation, and Anders Manga.
Finally, The Ladder...What's so special about the patient code-named Red Queen? What is Dr. Harriman Seldon Poole's interest in her? How will Eriq and Vlad come up with a superhero that is more Superman than Superman? And what was Dr. Lumen working on before he disappeared? The answers to these and other question will continued to be unveiled in January.
As always, thanks for reading.

TFPO column (the disturbing incident of the child) and new MO in rotation
Posted by Frederik Sisa at 17.8.09This week's Recreational Nihilist column is more of an expression of despair than anything else. The title, I think, speaks for itself.
The Disturbing Incident of the Child in the Movie Theatre
And this month is Morbid Outlook's 17th anniversary. My contribution involved more In Rotation music reviews. Clickety-click right here for reviews of GPKISM, Waves Under Water, and more.

Morbid Outlook: july in rotation music reviews
Posted by Frederik Sisa at 17.7.09As unusual as it for me to venture into music reviews, I couldn't turn down Mistress McCutchan, editrix extraordinaire of Morbid Outlook, when she offered me an especially successful In Rotation for the July edition.

got art? get noticed! (submission guidelines)
Posted by Frederik Sisa at 8.5.09As the resident film/theatre/art critic for the scrappy LA-based news magazine The Front Page Online (TFPO) and a regular contributor to the venerable gothic e-zine Morbid Outlook, I'm always on the lookout for exciting art to write about. Whether it's an independent film, theatrical or dance production, novel, music, or some other artistic delight, TFPO wants to hear from you.
When submitting a request to have your work reviewed, please keep in mind that however much I strive to be accomodating and timely, schedules - fickle things that they are - aren't always in alignment. With that tiny little caveat in mind, send review requests to:

goths and politics: a survey
Posted by Frederik Sisa at 15.11.08Unlike punk, goth has never been associated with the raised fist of revolutionary fervour. Yet with goth being so notoriously difficult to pin down beyond “I’ll know it when I see it,” could it really be so easy to separate politics from goth?Discover the answer in Goths and Politics at Morbid Outlook.
The results of a survey I conducted to find out what, if any, relationship there is between politics and goth culture have been published at Morbid Outlook...Limited space forced me to set aside some specific questions. For example: how did self-described anarchists respond? Were there any conservative goths? But stay tuned to future blog posts for a breakdown of the survey's results...

hey! morbid outlook has a writing contest going on!
Posted by Frederik Sisa at 16.10.08
Over at Morbid Outlook, Mistress McCutchan says:
We have DVD copies of The Undertaker and His Pals to give away, so I decided to run with that theme... We are seeking zany, creepy stories about food and/or cannibalism! Spill some guts and tell us a story that will make our skin crawl! Three winners will be chosen and have their work published in an upcoming issue of Morbid Outlook.
The absolute maximum word limit is 2000. The contest is open to our North American readers only. The deadline is Friday, November 7, 2008.

new column and new book review
Posted by Frederik Sisa at 17.6.08The various posts and comments over at Tim Lambert's excellent science blog, Deltoid, show just how dedicated global warming skeptics are at "debunking" the science underlying climate change. But where Lambert's foes tend to fight on the battlefield of statistics and nitty-gritty details often beyond lay persons, the trend in general forums has to been to focus less on scientific minutiae and more on big picture attacks . Hence, Al Gore and the environmental movement are accused of fraud. But what is the motivation underlying this hostile skepticism? That's the question I ask in this week TFPO column:
Letter to Global Warming Skeptics
And over at Morbid Outlook, my review of the graphic novel The Nightmare Factory - an adaptation of Thomas Ligotti's work written and illustrated by different folk - has posted. Note to self: write future blog post singing the praises of Mike Mignola and Hellboy.

book review: 20th century ghosts
Posted by Frederik Sisa at 15.5.08My review of Joe Hill's short story anthology, 20th Century Ghosts, has posted at Morbid Outlook. I'm almost tempted to seek out Heart-Shaped Box...but I think I'm happy to stick with the short stories. The ol' book stack is piled high enough as it is.
